The trail through the forest |
More moors! I had them all to myself.. Except for theI revisited this area for a run having last been here in January of this year.geese
I thought I'd try out the, 'follow a route', choice on my watch. The slight issue with the downloaded route was during my last adventure I spent a few minutes, okay a few tens of minutes, trying to find the path across the moor once leaving the forest. I decided I'd navigate that section the old fashioned way.
Reaching the reservoir I made the same navigation error again taking the track ahead of me once I'd crossed the dam. I should have turned left and following the trail for a few metres and then taking the next trail on the right. This trail would take me all the way to the forests fence line i.e. The place I wanted to be. Instead, I spent, you guessed it, another ten minutes trying to find the correct path.
Once I found the correct path I headed South past World's End looking for the re-entrant which ran East across Ruabon Mountain.
Really, I made the same navigational error as last time. I took the one opposite Plas-Yn-Eglwyseg rather than the one opposite Rock Farm. This meant I again reached the summit looking for a path that didn't exist.
I finally found a trail which meandered across Bryr-Adda Flat and into Newtown Mountain forest. There is a good water stop there.
Taking the path left, which followed the stream, after the bridge meant I came out on the Western side of the forest rather than the planned Northern edge. I continued heading North West towards Crag-y-Cythraul. I finally found the path which headed East and back towards the Mountain Lodge, the place I wanted to be anyway.
My route followed the original plot North until reaching the radio mast, South of Mutton Hall. Last time, the footpath at the end of the road was blocked though I thought I'd check once again. No joy, still blocked.
The remaining stretch of the route was uneventful and I got back to the start point without any further navigational challenges!
